Mission of the Center for Biological ControlThe Center will: 1. Carry out basic and applied research in select groups of Biological Control agents of weeds with emphasis on Curculionidae (weevils) and Chrysomelidae (leaf-beetles). 2. Carry out basic and applied research in the Biological Control of mosquitoes and biting flies with pathogens and insect Biological Control agents. 3. Develop a program of student training in Biological Control with emphasis on horticultural and vegetable insect pests. 4. Develop a complete Biological Control Curriculum and academic track for a degree option in Agriculture, undergraduate and graduate. 5. Recruit and train students for work in Biological Control and related disciplines in Agriculture. 6. Collaborate with the FAMU Centers in Water Quality and in Entomology to train highly competent students in the broadest fields of research utilizing the talents of the diverse faculty available in all of these areas. 7. Continue, through the Center, long-term working relationships with federal agencies (ARS, APHIS, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, CSREES, etc.) and liaisons with foreign countries. This will also enable Florida A&M University to participate in USDA initiatives and programs. Partnerships and collaborations with industry will be sought as well. 8.
