  1. Greek "gryll" meaning cricket and "blatta" meaning cockroach
  2. Diagnosis
    1. Wings lacking, body small, elongate, light brown to gray
    2. Chewing mouthparts
    3. Eyes small or absent, ocelli lacking
    4. Antennae long and filiform, 23-45 segments
    5. Cerci long, 5 or 8 segments
    6. Sword-shaped ovipositor almost as long as cerci
