ENY 3004 Course SyllabusCourse DescriptionENY 3004 General Entomology (4 credit hours). Prerequisites: a course in general biology; a course in some aspect of invertebrate zoology is also strongly recommended. An introduction to insect classification, biology and morphology. This course provides the necessary background for advanced courses in Entomology and Structural Pest Control. Laboratory work consists of learning major anatomical structure of insects, and training in insect identification, collection, and curation. Overview of the CourseInsects are by far the most diverse and (with the exception of bacteria) are the most numerous organisms on Earth. They have profound, though often unnoticed, effects on our own lives. In this course students will learn basics of insect structure and function, and the importance of insects in both natural and man-made ecosystems. Emphasis is placed on the various orders and major families of insects and their varied solutions to evolutionary problems. Student Objectives
